What should I wear for class?
If new to martial arts or aikido you may wear comfortable clothing that permits free movement, and no shoes on the mat. Once you determine that you would like to explore aikido on a more regular basis, you will want to obtain a keiko gi (kay-co gee [hard “g” as in gear]), the standard martial arts uniform. If you become dedicated to the practice you will want to obtain a hakama (the formal attire of aikidoka as well. Because aikido involves close physical contact, please practice in a clean gi, remove loose jewelry, bracelets and rings, and refrain from using strong perfumes or colognes before class.
